We have our next Cardio Workout session on Sunday, starting bright and early at 9.45am. Please arrive from 9.30am to change, register or sign in as needed so you are ready to start on time. Don’t forget the clocks change this weekend or you could be rather late!
This cardio session will once again be followed by a nutrition discussion and a chance to ask any questions you may have about the medical research or about the website.
I hope you’re looking forward to our next cycle ride on Sunday Mar 21st. Meeting at IBM Hursley at 10am as usual. Route maps and gps files are available now from the events page. Please make sure you dress appropriately for the weather whatever that is on Sunday and arrive promptly. If you have not already completed a registration form (at a previous cycle or cardio session) then you will need to complete one before joining the ride.
This week has seen a few updates on the website. The Events calendar has details of our training sessions for the rest of March and through April as well. Next up we have a cycle ride on 21st Mar and a cardio session on 28th Mar.
We now have a Just Giving page, so if you have raised any funds for Inspired Living, or want to send a link out for donations instead of gifts please direct them to the Inspired Living Page on Just Giving. This is also linked under the ‘Donate Now’ section on the right hand side. We are still working on getting our events listed under CRUK so people taking part in our cycle ride to Gibraltar can create individual sponsorship pages. This should be following soon.
The other update this week is a mailing list for notification on the Mass Ride. This will be taking place on 4th September and will be roughly 30miles long and open to everyone. Bookmark it in your diaries, and if you want to be notified when we open registration for this event please sign up here. Your email address will only be used to notify you when registration opens.
The cardio session on Sunday was well attended, with about 25 people turning up to work on their fitness. Lt Cdr Chic Stewart, our instructor, managed to catch quite a few people out with a few ‘games’ such as O’Grady says and Rats & Rabbits – you’ll have to come along next session (28th March) to find out how these are played!
While we were all recovering from the cardio workout we spent some time with our nutritionist, Barbara Parry, looking at the ‘Eatwell Plate’, discovering which foods fit into each category, and how to balance our diets to enjoy everything in moderation. The main surprises for me were that potatoes don’t count as one of our ’5 a day’ fruits & vegetables, and that, while eggs are a very good source of protein and iron, each egg yolk contains 1 teaspoon of fat.
Don’t forget our next cardio session on Sunday at the IBM Hursley Clubhouse. This will once again be followed by a nutrition discussion and the collection of data for the medical research. Full details are available on the Events Page, but in brief the cardio session will start at 9.45am til ~11am, and the nutrition discussion will start at 11am.
Don’t forget to bring some water and a matt for floor work. There will also be a donations pot available to help cover costs, we suggest a donation of £1 per person per session.
