Posted June 23rd, 2010 by Admin

We hope you all had a good time at the Gala Dinner last weekend – we certainly did! There will be a full report coming soon, with totals raised and a few photos. If you missed out this time, keep an eye out for details of our next Gala event – hopefully later on this year.

Coming up this weekend we have a cardio session, following the usual format – meeting at the clubhouse between 9.30 & 9.45am ready for a 9.50am start. Don’t forget to bring some water and a mat or towel for floorwork. Full details can be seen on the events page

Sign up for the Cycle4Life ride from Winchester to Portsmouth on September 4th. Encourage your friends and family to sign up too!

This is a family event designed to encourage anyone who does not see themselves as a hard core cyclist to take a gentle trip though some of Hampshire’s beautiful scenery. Hopefully you will discover that cycling is a great way to get into the countryside which lies on our doorsteps and will have a great time exercising. It certainly beats pushing pedals in a gym!

Sports Nutrition this Sunday

Posted June 10th, 2010 by Admin

Don’t forget the in-depth look into sports nutrition being held at the IBM Hursley Clubhouse this Sunday, starting at 11am. If you are taking part in the Continental Ride make sure you have completed your food diary, and sent it to Linia (or bring it with you on the day).

Andrew (our new Project Manager) is a keen cyclist, with a lot of experience in extreme cycling challenges, and he will also be passing on some advice on the best approach to training in the lead up to setting off for Gibraltar.

The Clubhouse serves good value food and drinks, which will be available from the bar if you wish to have lunch at the clubhouse. Please Note that you are not able to bring your own food with you.

Unfortunately we have had to cancel the Cardio session that was going to run beforehand. Details of the next cardio session will be available soon.

Sponsored Walk Report

IL Sponsored walk West Stratton Sunday 23rd May 2010

On this sultry Sunday Ann, Pam & Janet had kindly organised two sponsored walks for Inspired Living. Pam’s husband, Terry, led the way, sharing his knowledge & experience as we ambled through the promising Spring countryside.

The morning’s walk was 5 miles taking in many of the Manor Farm tracks closed to the public, including the heady scents of the bluebell carpet in ‘Black Wood’ & the rolling hills around west Stratton. There was not a could in the sky.

We had 3 dogs and they flushed out many deer but were well behaved, if only on account of the heat! They certainly sought out the shade at every opportunity & kept the walking pace down for the assembled company, making it a most relaxing & enjoyable walk.

Lunch was taken in the relative cool of the farm outbuildings and there was even a little beer for the men…this was after all, the hottest day of the year and the walking thirsty work!

Additional walkers joined after lunch for a 3 and a half mile walk down by the river and along tracks looking down over what would have been the site of the new town buildings for Micheldever if developers had had their way. The last part of the walk was through another beautiful copse carpeted by bluebells and finally back to the beginning.

Returning to the shade of the outbuildings, the dogs got a cool shower & the rest of us were treated to tea, coffee & gorgeous home made cakes, courtesy of Ann, Pam & Janet. A fittingly relaxed & tasty end to a most enjoyable day.

We raised £ 212 and look forward to adding it to the IL total.

Many thanks to Ann, Pam & Terry, Janet, Manor Farm, all the walkers and, of course, the dogs :-)

Sponsored Swim Report

Posted June 1st, 2010 by Admin

Jill Terry sent us the following report about the sponsored swim she organised to support us:

Just a few words of how our Sponsored Swim went on the 8th May 2010 swimming the equivalent of the English Channel and back (44miles) between approximately 50 swimmers.

The youngest two boys Thomas Keil and Michael Kelsey swam the small pool covering 120 lengths swimming and kicking with floats. Sophie and Daniel Read swam the most lengths between them as a family. The Sturt family raised the most amount of money, reaching around £700.

Many of the swimmers, Ellie Keil (9yrs), Megan Waugh (12yrs), Lauren Blake (10yrs), swam a mile and others of us, Francesca Blake (12yrs), Amanda Fahy, Kerry and Hayley Griggs (swimming teachers) and myself Jill (nearly 50yrs) swam 2 miles each.

A raffle was very successful with tickets having been sold throughout the week and a cake was very yummy after a long swim and made some extra cash for the event.

We had a great afternoon and all really enjoyed the challenge with the satisfaction that we have raised, when all the monies are in, £1900 approx.
