Cycling for Cancer and Cardiac Health
The core of our current project will involve a mass ride from Winchester to Portsmouth during September 2010. A number of people will then continue on to cycle all the way to Gibraltar in just 2 weeks. Around this there will be an exercise and nutrition programme and medical research to measure the effects on cancer and cardiac health. Cycle 4 Life: Winchester to Portsmouth
The Mass Ride is happening on September 4th 2010, so come & join us then!
Continental Ride
The ride is scheduled to start on Saturday 4th September 2010 in Winchester. The organising team are planning to arrange support vehicles, the outbound ferry, low cost B&B accommodation and return flights.
The Continental Ride has now closed to new participants. If you would like further information please contact us by sending an email to Mike.
We have people participating in the ride in one of three categories:
- “The Winos” – start at Winchester and leave the ride at Bordeaux to sample the wine !
- 350 Miles – 4 days
- These riders organise their own return arrangements
- “The Glory Hunters” – join at Madrid and sprint down hill to the finish line !
- 420 Miles – 5 days
- These riders organise their own travel arrangements to meet the ride near Madrid
- “The Sorbums” – Winchester to Gibraltar – the full monty
- 1250 Miles – 14 days
The route has been planned, mainly on quiet lanes and avoiding busy roads where possible.
The principle is that riders cover their costs and all funds raised are donated to Cancer Research UK. Our initial estimate is that it will cost each rider between £1000 and £1300 for the full ride depending on a number of factors. We will be requesting a non-refundable deposit of £200 by the end of February.
