Garmins and ride payment

Great to see a good number of riders on Sunday despite the chill factor!

One of the requirements for 2016 is that each rider should have their own Garmin. What became apparent from the first get together is that some participants either don’t have one, don’t know how to load tracks on to it, or can’t follow what has been loaded! Anyway, good humour prevailed and everyone managed to find their way home. It would however now be worth some of you investing some time (and money!) in researching this matter. If you need advice on this please feel free to approach one of the regulars. (Of course other satnavs apart from Garmin are available.)

For those who have mislaid the information about payments for the Home to Rome ride, please refer to the update email sent out on 17 December which sets out the amounts, due dates and Inspired Living bank details.

Home to Rome participants

Just a reminder to those taking part in the 2016 Continental ride that the next payment towards the cost of the ride is due on 1 March. Please remit to the Inspired Living bank account as before.

We are now in a better position to calculate a provisional cost per rider and if you are only doing part of the ride we will let you know your adjusted future payments in due course.

Ride together this Sunday!

A reminder that the first group ride is scheduled for this coming Sunday 28 February. Meet in the Hursley Club car park ready to roll at 9am. Forecast is 6 degrees with a strongish north easterly wind, so be prepared! We hope to circulate a GPX track for each route by the end of the week.

2016 Training Rides

These rides are intended to provide an opportunity to mix with fellow Home-Rome riders and supplement your own training plan! We recommend that riders have experience of at least one 200km ride, as well as riding on three consecutive days, before setting off for Rome.

1. IL Training run – a great opportunity for Home-Rome riders to mix. Other riders are also very welcome. Where we’ve set two distances (to hopefully meet the needs of most riders) both rides start on the same route. We’ll run these rides regardless of rain but not if it’s icy!

2. GPX tracks will be made available in good time for our IL Training runs.

3. We start most rides from Hursley Club SO21 2JN. It is formally only open to club members and guests. However, law abiding citizens are seldom turned away; if challenged just say you were invited by Mike Spencer and you’re expecting him to turn-up soon! They serve good value food and drinks.

4. Risk: All riders participate at their own risk.

Update for 2016 riders

Thank you to everyone for responding to email requests. Those of you who have pressed the purple button will receive latest news directly to your email inbox.

We can let you know that apart from finalising the leg to Portsmouth and deciding on where you will all regroup in Rome, the route is done and will be shared with you soon. All hotels have been arranged and your first payment used as deposits. Full details of their location will be shared with the route.

Quotes for the ferry crossing are being obtained and return flights looked into, as well as a way of returning all the bikes to the UK. The support team’s transport is taking shape and we are starting to draft the rider’s pack.

Mike proposes to commence group training rides from the end of February once, hopefully, the weather improves. Watch this space.

Attention 2016 Home to Rome participants

There have been some small updates to pages on the Inspired Living website. Most importantly, the Just Giving arrangement has been set up with CRUK and links to the Team page (to which a rider’s own page can be linked), are available to view and use via the website.

As you know, a major objective of this event is to raise funds for CRUK so please go ahead and start your fundraising when you are ready. Here are the instructions for you to set up your own page.

1. Create your own page CRUK JG page and close

2. Go to IL Team page 2016

3. Click on ‘Join the team’ next to the title ‘Team members’ and log in again.

4. Select the 2016 page you have just created (if you have more than one page) and then click the blue button ‘Join team’.

5. An email will then be sent to the team page administrator to approve your request. (Your confirmation may land in your spam/junk box.)

6. Either share your page’s web address or that of the IL team page where your own page can be selected for a donation to be placed.

If anyone wishes to donate to the team as a whole, a separate page for that purpose is already on the team page.

“Home to Rome”

You have probably heard through the grapevine that a 2016 Inspired Living continental ride is in the planning. We would now like to invite cyclists to register interest in joining the ride so that we can establish the required logistics and make some provisional arrangements.

The proposed ride highlights are as follows: (click on image to enlarge)

If you are interested in joining us, please send an e-mail to Barbara Brown at the following address: b.brown@thornden.hants.sch.uk

The process will be:
• Rider to confirm their interest in joining the ride: Close date 26/10/15
• Firming up of the ride route together with the logistics of hotels, support vehicles etc
• Establish a budgetary cost per rider: Targeted for 1/12/15
• Rider to confirm wanting to join the ride: Target window 2/12/15 to 31/12/15

We hope you can join us and that we can arrange the required logistics to support us all.

If you know of anyone else who would like the opportunity to join the ride, please forward this note to them. Although we are likely to need to limit numbers because of logistical constraints, we do wish to attract new riders and raise even more funds for CRUK.
